To Blog or Not to Blog, That Is the Question
by Chaz Puett on Feb 22, 2021 3:45:00 AM
We don’t want to ruin the suspense for you, but the answer is – yes!
Creating a blog for your website is one of the most effective ways to up your SEO game and increase or secure your top-ranking each month. Blogging is also an excellent way to connect with your patients and share information that may be of interest to them.
If you’re considering adding one or two blogs to your website each month, here are some helpful tips to consider when you’re creating your own content.
How to Create an Effective Blog
When you’re writing a blog, keep in mind that it needs these things:
Original Content: Don’t cut and paste information from other websites. Both Google and your patients will appreciate content written in your natural voice.
300+ Words: Make it your goal to write at least 300 words for your post. Higher word counts get even more traffic, so write more if you can. If it’s something you’re really interested in, go for it and write a longer blog, which can be a valuable resource for your patients and other professionals.
Use a Conversational Tone: Write your post like you would talk with your patients at your dental clinic. Getting too clinical or using medical or dental jargon can cause the reader’s attention to drift away.
Choose Topics of Interest to Your Patients
Once you decide what to write about, consider what your patients might like to hear about. This could include:
- Service-Related Topics – ‘What Happens If I Don’t Treat an Infected Tooth?’ or ‘What Causes Bad Breath?’
- Pop Culture Topics
- Practice News – the introduction of new team members
- Community projects – Are you involved with teaching hygiene at the local kindy or participating in local health events?
Change your topics each month to keep things interesting and your readers engaged. For example, in March, you might discuss the advantages of dental implants, and in April, you can report on the speaking you did at the local elementary school.
Use Titles and Headers to Grab Your Reader’s Attention
Keep the titles of your blogs concise yet interesting. Be sure to let your reader know what the blog is about.
- How Tooth Loss Impacts Your Health
- Our New Dental Associate Wants to Meet You
Use headers throughout your content to break it up and add interest. Headers can be similar to your title, formulated as questions, or numbered as tips or lists, such as:
Tooth loss impacts your health in these ways:
- Causes difficulties with eating and chewing
- Can result in bone loss that impacts neighbouring teeth
- May make it uncomfortable to talk or smile
Need Some Help With SEO and Blogging?
If writing blogs every month is not your thing, an SEO company can do the heavy lifting for you. You can expect keyword-rich, original, and engaging content for your patients each month that will score rankings when you work with an SEO professional.
